How Many Calories in Nuts and Microwave Popcorn?

Dear Editor,

I like to snack on nuts and popcorn but I think these foods are keeping me from losing weight. How many calories does nuts and microwave popcorn have?

 Dear Visitor,

The average serving of nuts (about a handful) is 170 calories. Microwave popcorn can be as high as 170 calories per serving and there is usually 3 servings per bag. That’s  a total of 510 calories and 36 grams of fat. Unfortunately, it’s the worse type of fat plus the trans fat from the oil.

There is microwave popcorn that’s lower in calories and some that are 100 calories per bag. That would be the popcorn to eat though it won’t taste as good as the regular or extra butter popcorn.

Nuts are also high in fat but unlike popcorn, it contains the good types of fat that decrease cholesterol and burn body fat so I would add 1 or maybe 2 serving of nuts to your diet plan and not worry so much about the extra calories when it comes to nuts.
