Can I Lose Weight Eating Fast Foods?

Dear Diet Forum,

I eat lots of fast food because of my busy schedule and I also hate to cook. I’ve been using this as an excuse for not being able to lose weight. Somehow I think that if I really tried harder, I could lose weight and not give up the fast food restaurants that I enjoyed. I need your advice.

Shirley

Dear Shirley,

The answers is Yes !   You can lose all the weight you want while eating at fast food restaurants but it all depends on your selection of foods and the restaurants you pick. Eating burgers and fries will not work but selecting salads and grilled chicken on a regular basis will help you lose weight.  Many fast food restaurants serve all types of dinner salads. The trick is to avoid the fatty salad dressing and request the light or lower calorie dressing.

Try to select a fast food restaurant that serves grilled chicken. A chicken breast and leg with a vegetable makes an excellent meal for lunch and dinner. For example, KFC is now serving grilled chicken. You can select 2 pieces of grilled chicken along with a side of green beans or corn. Avoid high carb sides such as macaroni, mashed potatoes, rice or french fries. If you get a drink, make sure it’s a diet drink. Also avoid chicken bowls that are full of rice which is a simple carb and will prevent your body from burning fat. Instead ask for a vegetable substitute for the rice.

If you must eat a hamburger, remove one piece of the bun and eat a regular size burger with just the bottom bun. This cuts down on the white bread that is notorious for raising insulin levels and preventing your body from burning it’s fat reserve.  Of course, no fries or other carbs side dishes  that will ruin your diet plan.
