Calories in Fried Chicken Breast

Dear Editor,

I love fried chicken and I know eating chicken is a good way to lose weight but how much more calorie does frying add to chicken. Can I lose weight without giving up my fried chicken habit.

 Dear Visitor,

Great question. Unfortunately, frying chicken almost doubles the calories and fat. For instance, a grilled or bake chicken breast with skin has about 220 calories with 12 grams of fat but if you fry the breast, the calories increase to 400 calories and 25 grams of fat.  A good substitution is to add bread crumbs to chicken and then bake. We have a great recipe for baking chicken that taste like fried chicken on our home page.

If you insist on eating fried chicken, then limit to 1 or 2 times per week and include lots of lean meats such as chicken or turkey but make sure it’s either deli meat or baked / grilled. You don’t have to give up fried chicken to lose weight, just limit your intake and you’ll do fine.
