Diet Plateau and What to Do

Dear Editor,

I want to lose weight and burn more fat but I really like pizza. I probably eat pizza 3 to 4 times per week and I love it. I’m 32 years old and I weigh a little over 180 pounds. How many calories are in a slice of pizza and can I lose weight eating pizza 3 times a week.

 Dear Visitor,

The average slice of pizza is about 300 calories and 50 grams of carbs.  A slice of pizza typically ranges in calories from 200 to 400 calories per slice depending on the crust and toppings. The thinner the crust, the less calories the pizza tends to have but the toppings also increase or lower the calories from the average.

As much as you love pizza, I would recommend that you avoid pizza and make better food selection if you want to lose weight. Pizza is purely a junk food. The crust is usually made from white flour and the toppings tend to be heavy cheese and other fatty meats. This causes a heavy spike in blood sugar and subsequent insulin levels, which makes burning your fat reserve a lot harder.

If you just have to have   pizza, stick to one slice per week. Pick a day of the week when you can eat pizza and buy it one slice at a time. Don’t  tempt yourself buying a whole pizza and eating a little at a time or else you’ll end up eating the entire pizza or most of it.
