How to Trim and Burn Belly Fat

Dear Diet Forum,

It’s  a new year and I want to trim my belly fat. I’m  6 foot  and weigh about 230 pounds.  Is there a way to target my belly fat so I burn the fat around my gut which is the only place that I have significant fat. What exercises should I be doing?

 Dear Visitor,

Unfortunately, there is no  way to target fat. There are all types of contraptions on the market that claim to give you six pack abs but the only way you can get rid of the fat around your belly is through strict dieting aided my some type of aerobic activity.  Reduce your calorie intake by 25% to 30% and increase your aerobic activity to 30 minutes per day, 4 to 5 times per week. Aerobic activity can be anything from a fast pace walk at home to the Elliptical, StairMaster or Treadmill machine at the gym .

The idea is to increase your metabolism through regular exercise and decrease your calorie intake by following a strict diet. Start by writing down your menu plan today. Plan each and every food item you will eat for the week and the amount you will eat and stick to your plan.  Don’t fall into the trap of drastically reducing your calories or starving yourself because it will backfire on you within a few weeks and you will overeat and become discourage then  eventually give up.
