Dear Editor,
I've been dieting for 4 weeks and have reached a standstill.
I can't seem to lose weight anymore and breaking through
this weight loss plateau seems impossible. Do you have any
words of wisdom.
Dear Reader
When you reach a weight loss plateau, try to increase your
exercise routine. It's normal for your metabolism to slow
down when dieting. By increasing your exercise duration,
your body burns more calories resulting in weight loss. If
you're not doing any exercise, this is a good time to start.
If you walk 3 times a week for 20 minutes, consider
extending your walk for another 15 minutes. The best way to
get through plateaus is to exercise a little more (don't
over do it or you'll get discouraged) to increase your
metabolism. The increase in overall caloric burn will create
weight loss in due time.
Breaking the weight loss barrier when you plateau can be
frustrating but keep in mind this process does not happen
overnight. Instead of weighing yourself everyday to see how
much weight you loss, weigh every 2 or 3 weeks and you'll
see your weight trend going down.
Your problem is common to anyone who is dieting for weight
loss. Don't get discouraged, you'll start losing weight
again but be patient, increase your exercise a little more
and don't focus on the scale ... weigh yourself every few
weeks.
