Dieting for Men

sensible dieting for men -- man and diet

Dear Diet Tip,

I'm 6' 2"  and weight 260 pounds. I would like to get down to 220 but like a lot men, I really enjoy my beer and weekend football games in front of the TV.  I know this is not exactly a healthy lifestyle and believe me, it's showing on my gut. Can you give me some suggestions on what to do.

Dear Reader,

The first step to successful dieting is recognizing the problem and you're already there. The majority of men just accept their growing belly without modifying their eating behavior. To lose weight, you need to eat between 1700 and 2000 calories per day. The average man can lose a pound of fat per week with that calorie consumption.

You don't have to give up your beer, just restrict it to weekends and drink no more than 2 beers each day of the weekend, that way you will not feel deprived, especially while watching the games.

Try to eat often, like every 2 or 3 hours. You should eliminate the chips. Stick with a meat such as chicken, fish pork chop, trim beef  with 2 vegetables.  You can eat a chicken breast with 2 vegetables for lunch.  Have a mid afternoon sandwich snack. For dinner, have your meat and 2 vegetables and snack on a fruit or light ice cream (no sugar added) for a late night treat.

Implement a good walking program. Walk for 30 minutes a day at a fast pace. Combine your exercise and dieting program and you'll get down to 220 pounds.
