Exercise Motivation for Weight Loss - Staying Motivated

Exercise is a key component to losing weight. Though exercise is more of a long-term strategy for losing weight and keeping it off and doesn't necessarily show up on the scale right away as weight loss, it still is extremely important for weight loss and especially the maintenance phase.

Most people lose motivation to exercise because of boredom or busy schedules. If you're in the habit of exercise, it's easy to get bored after months of doing the same exercises. Eventually, a busy schedule will get in the way and exercise becomes a low priority.

There are some people who can never get started on an exercise program because they hate the idea of exercising. Below are a few strategies you can use to keep your motivation.

Select an aerobic type exercise that you like

Walking at a fast pace is by far the most easiest way to consistently exercise. You can walk almost anytime and you don't need another person to walk 30 minutes a day. Unfortunately, not everybody likes to walk or jog. If you like working out with people, sign up for an aerobic class that fits your workout style. Aerobic classes are as varied as people. Some are very strenuous and others are much less heart pounding and easy to handle. Check out your local YMCA or health club to see which classes fit your style.

Just going to your local health club and being around others who exercise is good motivation. There are all types of aerobic exercise equipment from Stairmasters and treadmills to simulated rock climbing. Find something that you like.

A indoor swimming facility is an idea aerobic exercise. Because of the extra resistance, swimming also builds muscles. Indoor facilities are not weather dependent, so you can go anytime.

Focus on the Pay-off

The same rule that applies to diet plans also applies to exercise. During the tough days when you don't feel like exercising, you must stay focused on the pay-off. Visualize your trim body and remind yourself that exercise is a necessary activity to make it happen.

Don't Beat Yourself Up when You Miss a Workout

One of the biggest reason people quit exercise is guilt. After missing a planned workout or two, guilt and negative self talk destroys the will-power to workout again. Defeat the negative talk inside your head by giving yourself a break. You're not going to be perfect with your exercise routine, but you won't be defeated either. You may miss a workout here and there but you will be back on a consistent basis.

Of course, the other key component to any weight loss program is a good diet plan. We specialize in personal diet plans. If you need to lose weight, let us develop a sensible diet plan for you that will get the weight off. Click on Personal Diet Plan.
