Dear Editor,
My friend told me the fastest working diet
pills are the ones that cut carbs. I've been very suspicious
of diet pills in the past because they never worked for me. Is
my friend right? Should I consider diet pills that cut carbs?
Please answer because I'm really confused.
Dear Reader
Your suspicion of diet pills is right on
target. There is no evidence that over-the-counter diet pills
will cause significant weight loss. No diet pills will cut the
carbs, grab the fat, fight the fat or speed the metabolism
except for ephedra ... the herbal equivalent of speed, which
is in the process of being banned by most states.
The Federal Trade Commission is beginning
to enforce their own laws and bring legal action
against companies that make false advertising claims. The
only reason diet pills manufacturers can get away with false
advertising is that their product falls under a different
category than most pharmaceutical and over-the-counter pills.
Most over-the-counter diet pills are
considered dietary supplements and do not undergo the
stringent testing that other pills must go through. Even the
generic brands must go through lots of testing if not
classified as a dietary supplement. In other words, pills that
qualify as dietary supplement get a free pass and
don't need proof of legitimacy.
These diet pills seem just as effective as any other over-the- counter pills to the average person. They certainly look impressive and come in an attention-getting package. The problem ........ They don't work!!!!!!! These companies are selling snake oil disguise as diet pills and they're allow to sell their "snake oil" under the banner of dietary supplements.
The Food and Drug Administration has
published a warning about the effectiveness of diet pills at
their government
website
http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/wgtloss.html In
essence, they warn about being fooled with false claims and
they go on to say that there is NO magic way to lose
weight other than diet and exercise. Despite
what the diet pills manufactures would like you to believe,
there are no benefits from taking diet pills. The only thing
you will lose when buying these products is your hard earn
money.
