Foods that Lower Cholesterol

Studies have shown that diets are extremely important for people with high cholesterol. Certain foods are known to lower cholesterol. The foods that should be most avoided are those high in saturated fat.
 
Foods high in saturated fat tend to increase your low density lipoproteins, better known as LDL. Increase LDL leads to more fatty deposits in the walls of your artery which eventually causes heart disease.  Below are foods that lower cholesterol


Breakfast

·        Cereal with low fat milk (1% fat or non fat)

·        Oats or Cream of Wheat

·        Waffles

·        Juice

·        Fruits

 

Lunch and Dinner Foods that Lower Cholesterol
 

·        Chicken or turkey sandwich – use low fat mayo

·        Veggies – carrots, celery

·        Baked chicken – Remove skin

·        Fish

·        Spaghetti

·        Whole grain bread

·        Beans

·        Chicken noodle soup

·        Chicken-Veggie Stir Fry

 

Foods you should avoid that raise bad cholesterol

  • Alfredo sauce
  • Other cream sauces or soups
  • Butter or Margarines
  • Fatty red meats
  • eggs (use Egg Beaters instead)
  • Cakes
  • Cookies
  • Chips
  • Candy bars
  • Popcorn at Movie Theaters
  • Microwave popcorn (unless it is a "light" version)
