low fat low cholesterol diet plan  --  low cholesterol diet food

Dear Editor,

What do you consider a low cholesterol diet? My cholesterol level is too high and I don’t want to take drugs to lower it. I heard that a good diet can lower your cholesterol level so what do you suggest I eat?

Dear Jackie,

There are ways to lower your cholesterol level through good dietary habits.

  • Start by avoiding foods with high saturated fat.

Cream sauces and fatty meats are notorious for containing high cholesterol and should be avoided.

  • Reduce consumption of junk food

Junk food contains high fat, simple carbs and loads of cholesterol. Reduce the amount of daily junk food in your diet to help lower your overall cholesterol count.

  • Increase Omega 3 intake

Fish rich in Omega 3 have been known to help you achieve a low cholesterol. A good example of Omega 3 rich fish is salmon or sword fish. There are also Omega 3 tablets you can take.

  • Eat more soy products

Try more soy products like soy milk or soy nuts. Tofu is made from soy and can be easily seasoned and cooked.
