Dear Diet Tip, I came across the One Day Diet on the Internet. I took a look at the plan and it doesn't look like you eat much for one day. However, you go back to your regular diet the next day and alternate between the one day diet plan and regular eating. Does this method of dieting really work? It sounds good but I'm wondering if I will really lose weight on this diet. Need your advice! ~~ Gene Dear Gene, The one day diet plan is another example of a fad diet. Though it sounds like a logical diet, starving yourself (which is what this diet calls for) and then eating regularly the next day won't work. By starving yourself for a day, you set yourself up to over-eat later in the day. If you survive the first day, you will most likely over-eat the next day you switch to your regular diet. Any time you deprived your body of food, your appetite increases and your metabolism will slow down as a matter of survival. Most people can't maintain this type of diet for even one day. Those who lose any weight on this diet will quickly gain the weight back. Some one day diet plans include eating some type of special food for a day like crackers. Now how can you survive on crackers for the day without going on a binge? Other one day diets allow you to eat a very small amount of food with some type of capsule or diet pill. Again, the pills are a waste of money and you will probably not get past the first day on this diet. If you lose weight on a one day diet, odds are very high that you'll re-gain the weight in a very short time. Instead, plan to eat 3 to 5 small meals per day. Spread the meals throughout the day and increase your activity level by walking or riding a stationary bike at a moderate speed, 4 to 5 times per week.
The real way to lose weight is to decrease your overall calorie
consumption by 25% (nothing drastic) and increase your activity level.
This way you consistently burn more calories than you take in. It's very
important to plan each of your meals. Know exactly what you will eat
every day and make sure you eat every 3 to 5 hours. This is really
important to keep your metabolism running high.
